Information about RECOUP by people who have actually been there
Daniel
I spent three months in Recoup in 2007 (September-November). I didn't get better. I experienced lots of stress, lack of privacy, little interest from the side of the clinic. I felt cheated because many things advertised on their website were not true. I didn't see any system in the treatment, I was randomly assigned to different therapists who apparently had no or very little communication between themselves. Some of them were good and showing interest, some of them were not. Almost all of them were overworked, burnt out, with direct consequences for their approach and quality of treatment. On different occasions I received completely contradictory advices from the staff of the clinic. The most caring and conscientious therapists were dismissed or left the clinic during my treatment. Fighting for a full number of sessions was almost an everyday issue. Long waiting for start of the sessions was also a rule. There is no gym in the clinic (yes, there is a little room, almost always occupied by yoga and other sessions, with one machine, which was in a "life-threatening" state). The accommodation offered by the clinic was ridiculously expensive.During my stay in Recoup I gained the impression that the well being and health condition of outseas patients is rather secondary issue for the management of the clinic. This impression was only confirmed when a few weeks after I got back from Bangalore, I asked Dr Sharan by e-mail if he could send me a short certificate concerning my treatment. He replied that he almost didn't remember me and if I wanted a certificate based on his opinion/assessment, it will cost me 500 €. On the other hand, before I went to India, Dr Sharan had no problem with basing his opinion on a short e-mail I sent him and tell me that I need three months of intensive treatment in Bangalore.
I would tell people considering going to Bangalore, not to rely on what they say on their website and rather check the current situation there by getting in contact with somebody who is there. Both Dr Sharan and Jerrish Jose were very good at communicating with me before I went to India but once I was there the attention and care I got were different.
This is the way I saw it all, of course my subjective way of seeing things, however I think it wouldn't change even if I got better, which I didn't. If you wish to contact me for further explanations/clarifications, please do not hesitate to do so.
